Metamagic Skill

A Metamagic Test is rolled using the Metamagic Skill Rating. Entities like Spirits or Wards that doe not have a Metamagic Skill use their Force Rating.


Basic Techniques

Centering

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Active

By performing a centering technique (speaking in a foreign language, gesticulation, playing musical instruments ...) and spending an amount of time equal to the Cast Time of a Spell right before casting the Spell the initiate is able to reduce any penalties to the Spellcasting Test by up to his Metamagic Skill Rating.

Divination

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to rewind and forward the time of Auras he is assensing. To do so the Initiate makes a secret Metamagic Test against a Difficulty equal to the Time Modifier required for the given time (Base Time for backward is 10 Minutes, Base Time for forward is 1 Minute). If the Test succeeds the Inititate is assensing the Aura at the given time. If not, the GM can make up anything he wants. Note that assensing forward in time is a difficult task and will most likely only show what would be if the events continued like they are right now.

Masking

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to hide properties of his Aura When using the Masking technique, the character has to define what properties an Assennsing character sees. To see through the masking, the Assensing character has to succeed in an opposed Metamagic Test. This technique does not allow for changing of the Aura itself, and can thus still be recognized by his Aura.

Shielding

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Passive

To successfully cast a spell on the Initiate, for which a Resistance Test is made, the opposing spellcaster has to win an opposed Metamagic Test. If the Test fails, the shielded Initiate is not affected by the Spell.

Flexible Signature

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to change his Astral Signature. All properties remain the same, except that the Astral Signature is not his own. To see through the change, a successful opposed Metamagic Test is needed.

Inner Binding

Prerequisite: None

Kind: Passive

After summoning a Spirit the Initiate may roll an opposed Metamagic Test against the Spirit. If successful the Spirit does not leave at next sunrise/sunset, but the next new moon/full moon. The same procedure can be performed after Binding to make the spirit leave only at the next solstice instead of next new moon/full moon. Furthermore, after a successful Banishing Test has been made, a successful opposed Metamagic Test has to be made against the Initiate to banish a bound Spirit of his.

Inner Power

Prerequisite: Adept only

Kind: Active

Upon acquiring Inner Power and every time the Initiate increases his Metamagic Skill the Initiate can chose Adept Powers up to his Metamagic Skill Rating. Once chosen, powers can not be changed. The Initiate is able to swap Adept Powers from this pool to his active powers. To do so the Initiate has to meditate. He makes a Metamagic Test with a difficulty equal to the value of the Adept Powers swapped in and a Base Time of 5 Minutes. The total value of active Adept Powers may not exceed the Adepts Magic value.

Infusion

Prerequisite: Adept only

Kind: Active

The Initiate can chose to increase his effective Magic Value for one specific power by up to his Metamagic Rating. Doing so is a Complex Action. After a number of seconds equal to the Metamagic Rating, the Initiate suffers Drain equal to the increase in effective Magic.

Transfusion

Prequisite: None

Kind: Active

The Initiate can transfer Drain (before resist) up to his Metamagic Rating to a living sapient target as long as he is touching the target for the whole Spellcasting Duration and when he succeeds in an opposed Metamagic vs Willpower Test versus the target. Wheather the target takes physical or stun Drain depends on the targets Magic Value as normal.

Advanced Techniques

Extended Masking

Prerequisite: Masking

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to change the properties of up to 2 times his Metamagic Skill Rating worth of Foci or Spells when using Masking.

Flux

Prerequisite: Flexible Signature and Masking

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to disguise his Astral Signature, so that it looks like another Astral Signature the magician has seen before. To see through the charade an opposed Metamagic Test is needed. The Initiate can also try to fool Wards with this Metamagic, by winning an opposed Metamagic vs Force Test. To do so, the magician needs to know a Astral Signature of an Aura that is allowed to pass the Ward.

Ally Formula

Prerequisite: Inner Binding

Kind: Active

The Initiate is able to create a formula for summoning his Ally Spirit. This Metatechnique can be taken multiple times for multiple Ally Spirits.

Quickening

Prerequisite: Centering

Kind: Active

The initiate is able to make sustained spells permanent. While sustaining a spell the Initiate can perform a Metamagic Test against the Difficulty of the original Spell including another Resistance Test if applicable. The Base Time for this test is 4 times the Cast Time of the original Spell. If the Test succeeds, the Spell is now permanent with the new Test Quality. A quickened Spell can be dispelled as normal.

Absorption

Prerequisite: Shielding

Kind: Passive

After successfully shielding a spell, the Initiate absorbs the spells power and can maintain this charge just like sustaining a Spell. If he casts a spell while maintaining the charge he can use the charge to reduce the Spells Drain by the Drain amount of the absorbed Spell. The charge vanishes if the Initiate lets it go with a Free Action or uses it in Spellcasting.

Reflection

Prerequisite: Shielding

Kind: Passive

After successfully shielding a spell, the Initiate can reflect the spell to any target just like he was casting the Spell he just shielded.

Search

Prerequsite: Divination

Kind: Active

The Initiate gains the Search Power. use the Metamagic Skill Rating for all Search Testss


Shrouding

Prerequisite: Masking or Shielding

Kind: Passive

The Initiate is only affected by Detection Spells if the spellcaster wins an opposed Metamagic Test. If the Test fails, the Detection Spell simply ignores the Initiate.

Spell Molding

Prerequisite: Centering

Kind: Active

The initiate is able to create modified versions of Spells. To do so 200 Karma and a week of study is needed. He then modifies a Spell using Spontaneous Modifications. If he succeeds in a Metamagic Test with a difficulty equal to the sum of the Spontaneous Modifications he now knows the new Spell with the changes properties.
